THE ELECTRIC CAR THAT'S FASTER THAN A FERRARI!

It can outrun a Ferrari and is swifter than a Porsche...

But you won't find this mean machine guzzling gallons of gas - it's powered by a battery.

The new 700 bhp two-seater Lightning is made in Britain and can reach 60mph in less than four seconds.

AdvertisementIt takes a Porsche 911 S and a Ferrari 575 Maranello 4.1 seconds to match that speed.

At £150,000, it's the same price as the Maranello and more expensive than the £100,000 Porsche - but it'll save owners thousands on fuel and is exempt from road tax and congestion charge. And think of the benefits to the environment.

Bosses at the Peterborough-based Lightning Car Company reckon the motor will cost £10,000 a year less to run than a high-powered Audi RS4.

Its revolutionary NanoSafe battery has a range of 250 miles, takes just 10 minutes to charge and lasts 12 years.

Lcc technical director Arthur Wolstenholme said: "Ten, or even five years ago, electric power was dismissed as a poor substitute for petrol, diesel or LPG.

"But electric motor and battery technologies have been developed that will enable the Lightning to demonstrate a performance that exceeds some of today's petrol cars.
"Our electric power should outstrip the response rates and driveability of most exotic performance super cars."

The Lightning is expected to be available at the end of the year.
