CAVE HOME SELLS FOR £100K

A cave home in Worcestershire has been sold for £100,000 - four times the estimate.

Rock Cottage in Wolverley, which is hewn out of a sandstone cliff and has three adjoining caves, was last occupied in the late 1940s.The cave, which comes with a front door, windows, a sitting room and bedroom but no electricity or water supply, generated more than 50 requests for viewings. It was auctioned by Halls estate agency for four times its £25,000 guide price, reports the BBC.A near-neighbour bought the property because she wanted it "to stay exactly how it is", auctioneer Roger Sadler said.He added that people came from as far away as Spain to the auction.Mr Sadler said: "We are very pleased. You don't sell caves very often but it was a unique property that attracted an unbelievable amount of interest."The cave, sold with five acres of mixed woodland and associated garden land, was auctioned off following the death of the current owner.Experts say it is questionable whether it would be suitable for human habitation.

WORLD HOT DOG EATING CHAMPION

A US man has been named world hot dog eating champion.

Joey Chestnut broke his own world record by swallowing 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes - one every 10.9 seconds - in Coney Island."If I needed to eat another one right now, I could," the 23-year-old Californian boasted after receiving the mustard yellow belt.Chestnut won against six-time champion Kobayashi, from Japan, who recently had a wisdom tooth extracted and received chiropractic treatment due to a sore jaw.But Kobayashi, who won every Nathan's hot dog competition since 2001 showed no ill effects as he stayed with Chestnut frank-for-frank until the very end of the 12-minute competition. But once the contest ended, Kobayashi vomited, leading to a deduction from his final total. He finished with 63 hot dogs and buns eaten - still his best performance ever. His previous high in the annual competition was 53½. The all-time record before Wednesday's remarkable contest was Chestnut's 59½, set just last month.Competitors receive credit for anything in their mouths at the 12-minute mark, provided they can swallow it.
